What the cast said

Welcome back to StoryBeam. The daily podcast where imagination shines bright. I'm Kat.

I'm Allison. Happy Friday Favorites, everyone.

Happy Friday Favorites, everyone. Today our StoryBeam is shining a light on bravery,

big dreams, and a tiny knight with a huge heart. We are reading Knight Owl by Christopher Denise.

Owl has always dreamed of being a knight even if he's super small.

He really has. When knights start disappearing from the castle,

Owl finally gets his chance to join the Knight Night Watch. With clever thinking and a love for pizza,

he proves that size doesn't determine how brave you can be. Let's jump into this cozy adventure.

Let's get our ears on. I've got mine ready. Three, two, one. Let's read!

Here the cast reads Knight Owl by Christopher Denise. The book's own words stay with its author and publisher, so that part of the recording is not written out. Press play to hear it.

I love how Owl used his brain and a delicious pizza to turn a big scary dragon into a new

friend. It goes to show that bravery comes in all shapes and sizes. Co-host, if you were a knight on

the night watch, what midnight snack would you bring to share with a dragon? Let me think about

this question. The spicy ones, because spicy ones are my favorite, and I think the dragon would

really like the spicy chips. Oh, because dragons spit fire, right? Yeah. I think that you would

be able to make friends with any dragon in the kingdom if you give them those chips.

Grown-ups, if your little ones love this clever, award-winning tale, our StoryBeam suggestion for

your weekend library bag is the sequel, Knight Owl and Early Bird by Christopher Denise.

It's another delightful story about working together and making unlikely friends.

Look for it in our show notes. Send us your favorite book requests. That's right,

send us your favorite book requests in the comments, or send us an email. Be brave and stay wise today.

Always stand tall no matter how small you are. Have a wonderful Friday everyone,

and we will see you tomorrow morning for a fun Saturday Splash. And don't forget,

keep on reading. Bye.

After the story

The cast's takeaway: bravery comes in all shapes and sizes, and Owl used his brain and a pizza. Ask how a small person can be brave.

If you were on the night watch, what midnight snack would you bring to share with a dragon?

Owl was afraid and brave at the same time. When have you felt both?

Owl and the dragon found things in common. What could you find in common with someone who seems very different?
